They made the play funny and it wasn’t supposed to be. They went out of character to explain things and made everyone laugh. It was supposed to be a tragedy of someone dying for love.
The paly was funny when it was supposed to be serious. Bottom repeatedly interuppted the play to explain what was happening which made the play even funnier.
They went out of character to explain things, which didnt really need to be explained in the first place. If there were any children, then maybe someone would’ve been scared by the lion. A play is supposed to continue unless it finishes or there is an intermission. But Bottom switched back and forth from his part, to explaining things and talking to Theseus.
A play which was supposed to be peformed into a trajedy ended up turning into what we know as a comedy. Bottom, one of the main Characters in the play would play two different roles in the play. He played his character and he narrated parts of the play like the scene death on a wall which made the Duke and his guests laugh a lot.
I think they made the play funny because they didnt do a good job performing the play AT ALL. They kept coming out of character to explain what was really going on because they couldn’t play there person good enough.
In the play they would interrupt themselves by stopping their actions and stating what was going on and who they were. Also, they made some mistakes during their performance. This takes away from the story they are trying to tell and can possibly confuse the audiance.

By the mechanicals made alot of mistakes and had to explain things. That the play wasn’t suppose to be funny when it was.

The play went from serious to funny. They had to explain things, like the death and the wall. Even Bottom went out of character to explain something.
